Meditation Style
Meditation is a wonderful way to develop insight, health, and compassion. We practiced seated, silent meditation. Our group practice builds stronger intention and energy for meditation.
Feel free to join us with your own silent meditation practice from any tradition.
If you would like meditation instruction or details on Zen, visit an orientation session (see the Calendar). There are also details about posture and meditation forms at the Open Sound Zen web site.
In addition to sitting meditation practice, our practices include elements of Zen services, such as the Heart Sutra. We also offer occasional online retreats, and individual, optional Zen koan practice.
Our Zen Tradition
Open Sound Zen Community practices in person in Seattle and online via Zoom.
Our organizer is Chris Chapman, who has practiced Zen for 25 years. He received teaching authority in 2023 in the Golden Wind Zen Order, a lineage of Zen Master Seung Sahn.
For more on Open Sound Zen — practice forms, teacher, commitment to openness & inclusion, ethical practice, and more — visit the Open Sound Zen Community.
If you are in the Seattle area, check out our in-person practice times with the Magnolia Zen Group.
